World's Seven Most Unusual Theme Parks: Fantasy in Reality
That family vacation to the fun-filled theme parks, standing in long queues to take your favourite ride twice, munching on the fast food and posing crazily for the camera is just a part of the excitement built around theme parks. Those spinning, exhilarating rides and that silent fear pounding in your heart while you near the ride, complete the theme-park formula. Well, really? Think again. Those days of amusement parks based around popular elements of entertainment culture (read Mickey, Lego) are long gone. The definition of theme parks has changed to encompass a much wider meaning. With bizarre, unusual and yet entertaining theme parks cropping up everywhere, we know we are not in Disneyland anymore. Here, we bring to you the 7 most unusual and crazy theme parks situated, not in Orlando, but spread across the world – (1). Gardaland (Italy) – Located in Northern Italy on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, Gardaland is a 14-acre park which is open seasonally from April to September and October, December, January. The park has over 56 rides, with something for everyone. Believed to be an excellent place for hair raising, gravity defying activities, Gardaland seeps in adrenaline rush roller coasters. But, don’t worry – you can go there with kids as well, because kids have their own cute little fun rides to choose from. (2). Ferrari World Theme Park (Abu Dhabi)– If you didn’t know how it is to drive at 200miles/hr on a Ferrari, don’t worry. Abu Dhabi brings to an amusement park with a Ferrari theme. Spread over an area of 30,080 acres, Ferrari World comprises 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, 23 onsite themed resort hotels, 5 golf courses and other recreational venues. You will never get bored here. The roof is designed to look like the Ferrari logo and in fact, happens to be the largest Ferrari logo ever created. The colossal park is also home to the world’s fastest roller coaster, the Formula Rossa. (3). Suoi Tien Park (Vietnam) – When Buddha got enlightened under a tree, little did he know that centuries later, there will not be just temples but also theme parks formed after him. The Suoi Tien in Vietnam is a Buddha-themed park, mainly for children. It is based on Southeast Asian culture with dragon, unicorn, tortoise and phoenix being the main elements of the park. Suoi Tien has a roller coaster, a Ferris wheel and all the typical rides of an amusement park, only with a unique Eastern flavour. Watch out for gigantic carved faces, staring at you while you splash your way through the lazy river. (4). Love Land (South Korea) – This is eroticism re-defined. A bizarre sex themed park, only for adults, Love Land is located on the Island of Jeju. Made of sculptures depicting explicit sexual positions, this park claims to be “a place where love oriented art and eroticism meet”. It also runs sex-education films and is not for sheer entertainment. Encompassing an area the size of 2 soccer fields, the park can be viewed in an hour. If Asian nations are seen as reserved when it comes to open displays of sexuality, then Love Land, displaying sexuality in its raw beauty, ends this stereotype. (5). Crocosaurus Cove (Darwin) – Want to how eerily thrilling it is to get really close to massive reptiles? Then try this park which gives you a special ‘rendezvous with reptiles’. Crocosaurus Cove, located in the heart of Darwin, has the largest display of Australian reptiles in the world. You can see these reptiles up, close and personal, swim with them and lure them closer with a chunk of buffalo meat on your fishing line. Don’t get too scared now, you’ll be in a glass cage and the reptiles will be outside of it. Indeed, what a serenely thrilling way to see nature! (6). Bon-Bon Land (Denmark)– If the previous park was soothingly beautiful, this one’s equally grotesque. The concept is amazing; it’s just the creators of the park have made it so lucidly real, that you will actually feel like throwing up when you see rats vomiting, dogs farting and a seagull crapping in an alligators mouth. Apart from these crazy things, the park also has good roller coasters and other rides and is the most heavily populated parks in Denmark. All in all, it is a fun place to take your kids or siblings and have a fun filled family day out. (7). If you can’t stand changing temperatures, then you might as well visit this place since it maintains a temperature of 30 degree Celsius year round! With such parks being designed, it seems like a figment of our imagination has come true. These are just a few interesting and crazy parks. There are more such theme parks around the world waiting for you to explore. |
